This is a Col Smith channel bottom model circa 1987, that I fixed for a local guy. He bought it 2nd hand late 80’s off a mate, shaped as an Indo board. he left it with a mate at one point while on an extended over seas trip. Short story, it wasn’t looked after and was in pretty bad shape. He’s no longer able to surf but wants to display it.

I spent a fair bit of time working out how/what I was going to do with it. Repairing most of the dings to make watertight was straight forward, but quantity of dings made it slow work.

The major ding around the decal on the bottom: My original thought was to paint the taped off area in photo as a solid colour, but this would have lost most of the artwork. Second thought was that I could save the paint under the decal, however, the photo with the grey colour is to show how much original artwork I was unable to save.

I’m a little disappointed with some of the colour matching, but I have softened the impact of damage and the owner is very happy.

I feel that I’ve learnt a lot with this one.
