Description
Age: 54
weight : 94kg at time of shaping (dropped down to 89kg for trip)
Had been riding the 8’6″, 70’s model, trying to get back into surfing for a few months.
A mate organised a surf trip to Lakey Peak, so I dropped down to a 7’6″ that was better suited. Then I found out that they had a 6’7″ board bag limit, so I needed to work something out.
I needed as much volume as I could get, without losing in performance if possible.
This board is 6’5″x22″x3″1/8, but has the plan shape of a 7’2″ to 7’4″. It has a snub nose and a widish diamond tail, with a single concave through the front to middle of board with plenty of ‘V’ in the tail along with some ‘funky’ channels and has a fairly flat rocker. I am a heavy back foot surfer, so have kept it quite thick at the tail.
IN short, this board paddles extremely well and is allowing me to do some of the tightest turns I’ve done in a long while.
I have another board 1/2 shaped in the shed that is a more traditional shape but the same channels, so it will be interesting to see how that one works when finished. Problem is that this board is going that well, I’m not riding any other board.
P.S: I shaped 2 boards for the trip (on 22/3/17) and as of today (2/6/17), the second board remains unridden as this one is going so good
